BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 53-37, on the road at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday evening.
Cairn (4-13, 2-9 CSAC) started off strong after the opening tip, holding a 10-8 lead over Bryn Athyn (8-8, 6-4 CSAC) after one quarter. Both teams struggled with their shooting in the second frame, but the Lions managed to re-take the lead (19-14) at intermission. Bryn Athyn boosted the advantage to 15 (33-18) at its highest point in the third stanza, but the Highlanders trimmed the deficit down to nine (37-28) heading into the fourth. Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) with 7:01 to play, but a quick, 14-2 Bryn Athyn sprint put an end to Cairn's comeback efforts.
Cairn and Bryn Athyn posted matching 31.3% (Cairn: 15-48, Bryn Athyn: 21-67) marks from the field. The Lions held a narrow edge on the glass (39-32) and won the turnover battle, 26-16.
Cairn was paced on offense by sophomore
Kailee Sobrino (Tucson, AZ / Empire HS), who tallied a game-high 18 points to go along with four assists and three steals. Hinson followed in double figures with 11 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots.
The Highlanders will continue their road trip on Saturday, January 28 when they travel down to Rosemont College for a conference contest starting at 1 p.m.
