LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (20-25, 13-25, 20-25) decision in their home opener to undefeated King's College inside the Mason Activity Center on Monday evening.
Cairn (0-3) started off hot, jetting out to a 4-0 lead over unbeaten King's (5-0) in set one, and led 13-6 at the midway point. The Monarchs responded with a seven-point run to knot the match up at 13 a-piece. After Cairn took a 17-16 lead, King's closed the set on a 9-4 run to take a 1-0 match lead. The Monarchs handily claimed set two (25-13) and both team were deadlocked at 8-8 in set three. Cairn ignited a quick 5-1 sprint from that point to take a 13-9 lead. Cairn led 18-16 nearing the end of the third frame, before King's utilized three-straight points to reclaim the advantage at 19-18. The deficit remained one at 21-20 three points later, but the Monarch closed the match on a four-point run to close the straight-set triumph.
Cairn was led offensively by junior
Will Nase (Harleysville, PA / Souderton Area) with a team-high eight kills. Senior
Caleb Horning (Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) followed with five kills, while classmates
Cameron Cronk (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) and
Joshua Hoagland (Chiang Rai, Thailand / Chiang Rai International) each added four kills a-piece. Senior
Shea Scott (Harleysville, PA / Souderton Area) dished out a match-high 24 assists, while classmate
Josh Moyer (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) scooped up a match-high 14 digs. King's won the bout at the net, totaling 23 blocks compared to four for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders will be back on the floor on Thursday, February 2 when they travel to Chester for a non-conference tilt with Widener University at 7:30 p.m.
