Women’s Tennis: Highlanders Shutout Defenders in CSAC Semifinals, Will Meet Cedar Crest for CSAC Championship

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The No. 1 seed Cairn University women's tennis team won, 5-0, in a race to five in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinals at home against No. 4 seed Clarks Summit University on Friday, advancing to the CSAC Championship match tomorrow afternoon.
 
Cairn (19-1, 6-0 CSAC) collected all three doubles victories by shutout margin against Clarks Summit (3-10, 3-3 CSAC) to take a 3-0 lead at intermission, led by junior Paige Kemper (Lancaster, PA / Garden Spot) and sophomore Brianna Miller (Delta, PA / Kennard-Dale) at No. 1 doubles. Senior Sarah Jackson (Milltown, NJ / Middlesex County College) and freshman Ersy Neal (Wayne, PA / Delco Christian) scored a victory in the No. 2 position by a score of 8-0, while sophomore Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Richmond, VA / Veritas School) and freshman Daphne Neal (Wayne, PA / Delco Christian) followed that up with an 8-0 triumph in the No. 3 slating. Jackson got the Highlanders within one point of winning the match when she scored a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in No. 4 singles, before Campbell-Robertson closed things out with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of her opponent in the No. 5 slot to seal the victory. The Highlanders were well on their way to claiming all nine matches in the contest, as Kemper held a 6-1, 2-0 lead before her match was called at No. 1 singles. Miller led 6-0, 5-0 in her No. 2 singles match, while Ersy Neal was up 6-1, 5-0 in her contest at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) was the beneficiary of a 6-0, 5-0 lead in her match in the No. 6 slating.
 
As mentioned, No. 1 seed Highlanders advanced to their third-consecutive CSAC Title Match with the win and will meet No. 2 seed Cedar Crest College, who defeated No. 3 seed Bryn Athyn College, 5-2, at home inside the McCurdy Tennis Facility with a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament on the line at 3 p.m.
