Men’s Lacrosse: Highlanders Stampede Past Giants on Senior Day, Finish Season on Two-Game Winning Streak

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's lacrosse team won, 17-1, at home against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) adversary Keystone College on Wednesday evening, finishing their 2022 season on a two-game winning streak.

Before the contest, the Highlanders honored their sole senior Joshua Reoun (Philadelphia, PA / Northeast) for all his work in building the foundation for the men's lacrosse program.

Cairn (3-9, 2-4 CSAC) had the momentum from the onset, scoring seven unanswered goals in the first period. In the second frame, Reoun made his Senior Day one to remember, finding the back of the cage for his second goal of the year to give Cairn an 8-0 lead. The Highlander defense kept Keystone (0-10, 0-6 CSAC) off the scoreboard until the fourth period when the Giants notched their first and only tally of the bout. Cairn dominated nearly every statistical category, outshooting Keystone (51-15) and handily beating the Giants in the ground ball battle (67-30). The Highlanders killed off all eight Keystone extra-man opportunities, while converting two of their own.

Cairn was led offensively by sophomore Jonathan Balsamo (Manorville, NY / Eastport South Manor) with five goals and two assists. Freshman Ramon Juarez (Gaithersburg, MD / Bridgton Academy) tallied a hat trick with three goals and a pair of assists, while sophomore Charles Cotton (Newburgh, NY / Newburgh Free Academy) netted a career-high four tallies. Sophomore Derek Mahone (Detroit, MI / Oberlin College) had his best performance of the season in the X, winning 16 of 22 face-offs and corralling a career-high 12 ground balls. Freshman Allen Gregg (Coatesville, PA / Coatesville) added two goals and an assist and forced a team-high five caused turnovers to go along with nine ground balls. Freshman net minder Nico Cione (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) earned his third win of the season after making seven saves in 60 minutes in the cage.

The Highlanders finished the season with an overall record of 3-9 and were 2-4 in CSAC play. Cairn recorded three wins in just the program's second year of existence and returns nearly their entire roster for next season.
