MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Cairn University softball team fell in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader on the road against Saint Elizabeth University, dropping game one by an 8-0 score, before faltering 6-1 in game two.
Cairn (3-15, 0-6 CSAC) and Saint Elizabeth (7-5, 4-2 CSAC) engaged in a pitcher's duel early, as Highlander junior
Kacey Wees (Irwin, PA / Hempfield) kept the Eagles off the scoreboard through the first three innings of the contest. The Eagles took command of the contest in the fourth and fifth innings, plating eight runs to seal the contest. Junior
Jenna Kenyon (Clarksville, MD / River Hill) led the Highlander offense in game one with a team-high two hits.
In game two, Cairn struck first in the first inning when junior
Theresa Beck (Lansdale, PA / Dock Mennonite Academy) delivered an RBI-single to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead. However, that would be the only run the Highlanders would score in the contest as the Eagles scored six unanswered to round out the contest. Wees and sophomore
Adriana Shannon (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) led Cairn in game two, each notching a pair of base hits.
The Highlanders will be back on the field on Tuesday, April 12 when they welcome CSAC foe Clarks Summit University to Langhorne for a conference doubleheader inside the Stillman Complex starting at 3 p.m.
