LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cairn University softball team opened up their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) slate on the road at Keystone College on Saturday in a conference doubleheader, falling 13-5 in game one before dropping game two by an 11-0 margin.
In game one, Keystone (8-6, 2-0 CSAC) jetted out to a 12-1 lead, boosted by an eight-spot in the bottom of the second inning. Cairn (2-9, 0-2 CSAC) made things interesting after plating three runs in the top of the third, courtesy of two RBI-doubles by freshman
Abbi Heacock (Media, PA / Delco Christian) and junior
Theresa Beck (Lansdale, PA / Dock Mennonite Academy). Heacock led the Highlanders at the plate, going three-for-three at the plate and driving in a game-high four RBIs, while junior
Jenna Kenyon (Clarksville, MD / River Hill) followed with a pair of base knocks and two runs scored. In game two, the Highlanders felt the burden of an excellent outing from Keystone pitcher Courtney Cienki, who stifled the Highlanders bats en-route to an 11-0 victory.
The Highlanders will be back on the field on Thursday, March 31 when they make their long-awaited debut inside the G. Patrick Stillman Athletic Complex in a single, non-conference bout against John Jay College at 3 p.m.
