LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's lacrosse team lost, 16-2, against non-conference opponent Alvernia University inside the G. Patrick Stillman Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening.
Alvernia (1-6) tallied the first eight goals of the contest, before Cairn (0-4) notched its first tally of the contest courtesy of sophomore
Jonathan Balsamo (Manorville, NY / Eastport South Manor) off a feed from senior
Joshua Reoun (Philadelphia, PA / Northeast) in the second period. Reoun recorded the second goal of for the Highlanders off a dish from Balsamo in a man-up situation in the third frame.
Alvernia held the edge in shots (40-26) and ground balls (42-37), while holding a narrow advantage in the turnover department (31-25). Balsamo and Reoun each tallied two points (one goal, one assist) while freshman
Daniel Amarante (Bronx, NY / Mount St. Michael Academy) scooped up a team-high seven ground balls. Freshman
Devin Murphy (Walden, NY / Valley Central) paced the Highlander defense with four caused turnovers, while freshman net minder
Nico Cione (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) collected a game-high 13 saves in a complete game effort.
The Highlanders will be back in action on Monday, March 28 when they welcome the College of Mount Saint Vincent to the Stillman Complex for the first home night game in program history under the lights at 6:30 p.m.
