Softball: Highlanders Compete in Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Cairn University softball team competed in five games over their Spring Break trip at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach this past week.
 
The Highlanders battled over the first three games of their Spring Break trip, falling 9-1 against Wilkes University and 11-0 against Easter Mennonite University on Monday. Cairn (2-5) dropped a 9-1 decision in its first game against La Roche University on Tuesday, before getting into a hotly-contested bout with Marymount University in their second game of the day. Trailing 9-6 in the final inning, the Highlanders cut the deficit to just two after junior Kacey Wees (Irwin, PA / Hempfield) and sophomore Adriana Shannon (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) scored on an error by Marymount. The Highlanders put runners at the corners threatening to tie the game, but Marymount held on for the 9-8 victory before Cairn closed its Spring Break trip with an 11-0 defeat against Penn College of Technology.
 
Cairn is scheduled to be back on the field on Tuesday, March 15 to take on Lesley University in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Location is TBD.
