LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team lost, 3-0 (16-25, 20-25, 17-25) in their home-opener against non-conference foe Elizabethtown College on Tuesday evening.
Cairn (1-4) got off to a hot-start against the stout Blue Jays, jetting out to an early 6-3 lead in the first set. Elizabethtown (10-2) rallied back to take a 15-14 lead midway through, before ending the frame on a 10-2 run to take the first set. Both teams battled back-and-forth through a hotly contested second set and the Blue Jays held a 21-19 lead after junior
Shea Scott (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) earned an out-of-system kill to cut the deficit to just two. Unfortunately, Elizabethtown imposed its will, scoring four of the last five points to claim the second set and kept their momentum through the final set to earn the straight-set triumph.
Cairn was led offensively by sophomore
Will Nase (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) who slammed down a season-high 11 kills and collected a .250 hitting percentage in the bout. Nase was followed by junior
Caleb Horning (Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) with six kills and a team-high nine digs, while sophomore
