LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 94-55, at home against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Bryn Athyn College on Tuesday evening.
Cairn (2-6, 0-3 CSAC) stuck with Bryn Athyn (3-3, 2-1 CSAC) midway through the first frame, and led 10-9 after a triple by fifth-year
Markie Watson (Jupiter, FL / Holy Cross Academy). However, the Lions closed the opening stanza on a 17-7 run and held a nine-point lead (26-17) at the end of the frame. The second quarter firmly belonged to Bryn Athyn, as the Lions outscored Cairn 28-8 in the period to firmly take control of the contest.
Bryn Athyn shot 46.3% (38-82) from the field compared to a 31.1% (19-61) mark for the Highlanders. The Lions controlled the glass to a 53-37 advantage, and connected on 46.7% (14-30) of its three-point tries. Cairn assisted on 16 of its 19 baskets in the contest.
Cairn was led offensively by sophomore
Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS), who poured in a game-high 21 points on a 10-for-16 night from the field to go along with eight rebounds. Classmate
Tamia Warner (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) followed in double figures with 14 points and eight boards, while Watson chipped in eight points. Freshman
Payton Cline (Falling Waters, WV / Heritage Academy) filled up the stat sheet with five points, a career-high seven rebounds and matched Hinson with four assists.
The Highlanders will be back on the hardwood tomorrow night when they travel to Media to take on USCAA adversary Penn State Brandywine at 7 p.m.
