Women’s Basketball: Chargers Top Highlanders in Cairn’s Home Opener

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 97-42, in their home opener against non-conference rival Lancaster Bible College inside the Mason Activity Center on Saturday afternoon.

Lancaster Bible (1-0) stormed out to a 7-0 lead over Cairn (1-2) just under three minutes into the contest. The Chargers boasted a 23-7 lead over the Highlanders after one quarter. Cairn maintained the deficit, trailing 35-19 with 3:30 to play in the first half after a jumper from freshman Dreyonna Graham (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville HS), but the Chargers closed the half on a 12-2 run to take a 47-23 lead into intermission, and handily secured the victory in the second half.

LBC shot a flaming 50.6% (39-77) from the field and were just as efficient from long range at 44% (11-25). Cairn posted a 30% (15-50) mark from the field. LBC won the contest in the paint, outscoring the Highlanders 48-8 inside.

Sophomore Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) led Cairn with her second double-double of the season, tallying 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four assists. Graham followed with eight points and sophomore Kailee Sobrino (Tucson, AZ / Empire HS) contributed seven points and a team-high five assists.

The Highlanders will be back on the hardwood on Tuesday, November 15 when they're back at home for a non-conference tilt with Trinity University (DC) at 6 p.m.
