HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Cairn University women's basketball team suffered their first defeat of the 2022-23 campaign on the road at non-conference foe Centenary University (NJ) by a score of 64-35 on Thursday evening.
Centenary (1-0) stormed out to a 9-0 lead before freshman
Kaitlyn Barry (Brick, NJ / Brick Memorial HS) got Cairn (1-1) on the board with a triple midway through the first quarter. The Cyclones led 15-3 after one, and posted a 31-11 advantage at intermission. Centenary used that momentum to outlast the Highlanders in the second half en-route to victory.
Barry led Cairn's scoring output with a game-high 12 points on 50% shooting (4-8). Sophomore
Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) added nine points and six rebounds, while junior
Kyla Reciniello (Robbinsville, NJ / Robbinsville HS) paced the Highlanders on the glass with a game-high nine boards to pair with seven points. Freshman
Payton Cline (Falling Waters, WV / Heritage Academy) chipped in four points and matched Hinson and sophomore
Kailee Sobrino (Tucson, AZ / Empire HS) with a game-high four steals.
The Highlanders will be back on the floor on Saturday, November 12 for their first home matchup of the season against longtime rival Lancaster Bible College. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
