Women’s Volleyball: Highlanders Notch Fifth-Straight Win in 3-0 Sweep at Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team won, 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-6) on the road at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Clarks Summit University on Wednesday evening, marking their fifth-straight victory.
 
"We played a great game of team-oriented volleyball tonight." remarked Head Coach Whitney Seidel. "I continue to be so impressed and proud of our composure and joy on the court!"
 
Cairn (12-2, 2-0 CSAC) jumped out to a 14-6 lead over Clarks Summit (0-16, 0-2 CSAC) in the first set, and out away the Defenders with a nine-point run from that point. Cairn again made use of a long rally in set two, utilizing another nine-point swing after it led 13-6 to claim a 25-9 set-two victory. Cairn dominated set three en-route to the 3-0 sweep.
 
Cairn was led offensively by fifth-year Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) with a match-high six kills, while senior Kali Burres-Cheeley (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) and sophomore Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) and Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) added five kills a-piece. Fifth-year Caroline Bennett (Little Silver, NJ / Red Bank Regional) totaled four kills, while junior Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dished out a 26 assists to go along with seven assists (both match-highs). Zepp currently sits at 973 career assists, 27 short of 1,000 for her tenure which would make her the fourth player in program history to achieve 1,000 career assists. Senior Lizzy Fay (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) matched Burres-Cheeley on the defensive end with a match-high 10 digs.
 
The Highlanders will be back on the hardwood on Saturday, October 8 when they make the trip to Chambersburg to take on conference opponent Wilson College at 1 p.m.
