Men’s Soccer: Highlanders Topple Defenders in Fourth-Straight Shutout

| By:
Box Score CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team collected their fourth-straight shutout following a 2-0 triumph on the road at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon.

"I'm proud of the effort we displayed today to secure an important conference road win." remarked Head Coach Luke Gibson. "It was good to see another strong defensive effort with a clean sheet."

Cairn (7-5-4, 3-0-2 CSAC) and Clarks Summit (5-7-3, 1-3-1 CSAC) engaged in a defensive tilt early, with neither teaming breaking through in the first portion of the first half. Cairn broke that streak in the 33rd minute, when sophomore Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) teed up a free kick in Highlander territory. Beers deposited the free kick to an awaiting senior Josh Goodyear (Camp Hill, PA / Camp Hill HS), who headed the ball to a darting sophomore Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) to notch Cairn's first goal of the contest. The Highlanders held that 1-0 advantage until the 84th minute, when Cairn generated a penalty kick opportunity after a foul inside the box. Beers proceeded to bury the chance to give Cairn a 2-0 lead, a lead it held for the duration of the contest.

Cairn out shot Clarks Summit (20-8) and bested the Defender in shots on goal (11-4). Cairn also earned more corner kick chances (7-4). Beers led the offensive output with one goal and one assist and fifth-year goalkeeper Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing HS) earned his fourth-straight shutout between the pipes.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Tuesday, October 25 when they travel to Phoenixville for their final road conference bout of the season against the University of Valley Forge at 3:30 p.m.
