Women’s Volleyball: Highlanders Host LBC in Annual Dig Pink Contest

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team lost, 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 21-25) at home in their final non-conference match of the season against Lancaster Bible College on Thursday evening. The contest was Cairn's annual Dig Pink event, held to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. This year, all proceeds from shirt sales and other donations were given to the "For Pete's Sake" Cancer Respite foundation, a local organization that provides respite and care for families impacted by cancer.

Lancaster Bible (15-10, 2-2 United East) claimed the early advantage following a 25-19 first set victory to take a 1-0 match lead. Cairn (14-5, 4-2 CSAC) trailed 17-14 at the midway point of the second set, before rallying four-straight points to take an 18-17 advantage. Cairn maintained its lead at 22-21 near the later stages of the frame, but the Chargers utilized a four-point swing to end the set to take a 2-0 match lead. The Highlanders jetted out to a 10-4 lead in set three, but LBC answered by scoring nine of the next 11 points to claim a 13-12 advantage and finished off the set to claim the victory.

Cairn was led offensively by fifth-year Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) and sophomore Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) with six kills a-piece. Sophomore Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) followed with five kills, while junior Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dished out a team-high 22 assists. Seniors Kali Burres-Cheeley (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) and Lizzy Fay (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) each scooped up a team-high 11 digs.

The Highlanders will be back on the hardwood on Saturday, October 22 when they return to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on the road in Morristown at Saint Elizabeth University. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
