BALTIMORE, Md. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team lost on the road against Notre Dame of Maryland University by a score of 3-0 (9-25, 20-25, 16-25) on Tuesday evening in both teams Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opening matchup.
Notre Dame (6-8, 1-0 CSAC) proved its worth as the defending CSAC champions early, claiming a commanding 25-9 first set victory. In the second set the Gators sprinted out to a 23-15 lead, but Cairn (2-10, 0-1 CSAC) responded, scoring five-straight points cutting the deficit to just three in an attempt to steal the second set. The Gators bounced back, claiming the final two points and won the third set as well to claim the match.
Cairn was paced by freshman
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) who posted team-highs with five kills and led the defense with 12 digs. Freshman
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) followed Conrad defensively with a career-high eight digs. Sophomore
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) and freshman
Peyton Queen (Miami, FL / Lake Mary) led the Highlanders passing-wise, dishing out six and five assists, respectively.
Cairn will be back on the court on Monday, October 4 when they travel to Albright College for a non-conference bout with the Lions at 7 p.m.
