Women’s Volleyball: Late Rallies Propel Lions Past Highlanders

READING, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team lost on the road against non-conference foe Albright College by a score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 26-24) on Monday evening.
 
Albright (5-4) handily claimed the first set to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Cairn (2-11) and the Lions battled back-and-forth through the midway portion of the second set and were tied 14-14. The Highlanders proceeded to rattle off five of the next seven points and led 19-16 with a chance to claim the set. Albright battled back and won nine of the final 11 points and won the set, 25-21. After getting out to a 5-4 lead in the third stanza, Cairn went on its largest run of the match for seven-straight points to take a 13-4 lead. The Highlanders increased their lead to 19-7 and were knocking on the door, before Albright went on a torrid run, scoring 11 of the next 14 points to cut Cairn's lead to 22-18. The Lions then scored another four-straight to tie the set at 22 a-piece and followed by winning four of the finals six points to win the set and the match.
 
Cairn was paced by freshman Peyton Queen (Miami, FL / Lake Mary HS) who posted team-highs with seven kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Queen also tied a team-high with 10 digs. Senior Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) and freshman Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) each posted four kills, while Barnes added a game-high five service aces and Conrad scooped up 10 digs, tying a team-high. Sophomore Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) also registered 10 digs and dished out a team-high nine assists.
 
Cairn will be back on the court on Wednesday, October 6 when it returns home for official Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action against Clarks Summit University at 7 p.m.
