DUNMORE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-3 victory over Marywood University in a non-conference contest on the road on Monday.
Cairn (4-0) won two of the three doubles matches over Marywood (1-1) led by junior
Paige Kemper (Lancaster, PA / Garden Spot HS) and sophomore
Brianna Miller (Delta, PA / Kennard-Dale) who won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, improving the duo to 3-1 on the season. The Highlanders also topped the Pacers at No. 2 doubles as the duo of senior
Lauren Griffith (Newtown, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) and
Ersy Neal earned an 8-5 win. Additionally, sophomores
Gabriella Hurst (Stevens, PA / Cocalico) and
Theresa Beck (Lansdale, PA / Dock Mennonite Academy) won their exhibition match at doubles, 8-3.
Cairn won four of the six singles matches, led by Kemper with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles and Griffith with a 6-3, 5-7 (10-7) win at No. 3 singles, improving both players to 4-0 in singles matches so far this season. Sophomores
Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Richmond, VA / Veritas School) and
Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) also stayed unbeaten in singles on the year, as Campbell-Robertson snagged a 7-5, 6-2 win in the No. 5 slot, while Horning won 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Highlanders will be back on the court on Wednesday, September 29 when it travels to King's College for a non-conference contest at 3 p.m.
