LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's tennis team won in shutout fashion against non-conference foe Gwynedd Mercy University by a score of 9-0 at home on Saturday.
Cairn (1-0) claimed all the doubles matches, as senior
Brad Garges (Perkasie, PA / Pennridge) and freshman
Michael Wilson paired together to earn an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles. Juniors
Joel Cassel (Glenside, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) and
Max Bruestle (Abington, PA / Abington) also won their doubles match at No. 2 doubles, claiming an 8-1 victory. Cairn won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
The Highlanders also swept Gwynedd (0-1) at singles, as Garges and Wilson won at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1) and No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-2), respectively. Sophomore
Jake Edwards (Delta, PA / Harford Christian) earned a win via tiebreaker at No. 3 singles (6-0, 5-7 (10-3)), while Cassel and freshman
Joel Kim won at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-3) and No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-0), respectively, while Cairn also won by forfeit in the No. 6 slot.
Cairn will be back on the court on Monday, September 27 when it travels to Marywood University for a non-conference contest at 3 p.m.
