Women’s Volleyball: Highlanders Drop Road Contest to Chargers

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team lost on the road against Lancaster Bible College by a score of 3-0 (15-25, 11-25, 16-25) on Thursday evening.

Lancaster Bible (6-4) got off to a quick start, taking a 5-1 lead in the first set. Cairn (2-7) battled back to cut the lead to one (6-5) before the Chargers went on a 12-4 run, giving them an 18-9 lead, which led to a first set victory for LBC. After LBC claimed the second set, Cairn was down (7-5) early in the third set, before igniting a four-point run which included a pair of kills from freshman Peyton Queen (Miami, FL / Lake Mary HS). However, the Chargers responded with a four-point run of their own, and did not relinquish the lead again.

Queen paced the Highlander attach, tying a team-high with four kills and added six digs. Senior Caroline Bennett (Little Silver, NJ / Red Bank Regional) matched Queen with four kills. Junior Kali Buress (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) and freshman Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) led the Cairn defense, each registering seven digs. Conrad also had a team-and career high four service aces. Sophomore Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dished out a team-high 15 assists.

Cairn will be back on the court on Saturday, September 25 when it returns home for a non-conference matchup with the Goucher College Gophers at 11 a.m.
