Women’s Volleyball: Gophers Top Highlanders in Non-Conference Matchup

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team lost at home against Goucher College by a score of 3-0 (13-25, 17-25, 10-25) on Saturday afternoon.

Goucher (4-7) was able to get off to a good start and handily took the first set of the contest. Cairn (2-8) fought back, rallying to a 9-6 lead in the second set. However, the Gophers rattled off 10-straight points from there and regained momentum, winning the set by a score of 25-17. Goucher used that momentum from the second-set comeback to claim the third set, and thus the match.

Cairn was paced offensively by freshman Peyton Queen (Miami, FL / Lake Mary HS) who registered a team-high five kills and a career-high six assists. Queen also earned eight digs defensively. Freshman Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) led the defense with nine digs and contributed four kills. Junior Kali Burres (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) added four kills and four digs, while freshman Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) slammed down a pair of kills, marking a career-high.

Cairn will be back on the court on Tuesday, September 28 when it takes on Gwynedd Mercy University in a non-conference contest at home at 7 p.m.
