UNION, N.J. – The Cairn University women's tennis team defeated the Kean University Cougars for the first time in program history on Friday evening, shutting them out by a score of 9-0 on the road.
Cairn (2-0) swept the doubles matches against Kean (0-1), led by junior
Paige Kemper (Lancaster, PA / Garden Spot HS) and sophomore
Brianna Miller (Delta, PA / Kennard-Dale) who won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Senior
Lauren Griffith (Newtown, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) and
Ersy Neal combined to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, while sophomore
Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Richmond, VA / Veritas School) and freshman
Daphne Neal also won their match, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.
Kemper led the charge in the singles bouts with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Three other Highlanders won their singles matches by a score of 8-1, including Miller at No. 2 singles, Griffith at No. 3 singles and Campbell-Robertson No. 5 singles.

Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) each won 8-2 in their respective singles matches, with Neal winning at No. 4 and Horning claiming the victory at No. 6 singles.
The Highlanders will be back on the court on Thursday, September 23, when they return home for a non-conference matchup with Penn State Abington inside the McCurdy Tennis Facility at 3 p.m.
