WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team lost on the road against Wilkes University by a score of 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 19-25) on Thursday evening.
Cairn (2-6) held a 6-3 advantage in the first set. However, the talented Wilkes (5-3) team rallied to make in 17-17 at the midway point. The Colonels score eight of the next ten points in win the first set, 25-19. After claiming the second set by the same score, the Highlanders battled to a 13-13 score in the third frame. However, Wilkes scored nine-straight points to break the deadlock and proceeded to win the third set.
Freshman
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) led the Highlander attack with a team-high eight kills and 15 digs (career-high digs). Conrad also posted a 36.8% hitting percentage. Senior
Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) followed with seven kills and a team-high 41.2% hitting percentage. Barnes also recorded a pair of solo blocks. Sophomore
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dished out a team-high 22 assists and recorded a team-high two service aces. Junior
Kali Burres (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) followed Conrad defensively with 11 digs.
Cairn will be back on the court on next week when it returns home for a non-conference contest with Bryn Mawr College at 7 p.m.
