Men’s Soccer: Highlanders Battle to Double Overtime Draw with Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team battled to a 2-2, double overtime draw with non-conference foe Immaculata University on Saturday.

Immaculata (0-3-1) got on the board first on a two-on-one fast break in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Cairn (2-1-1) had the answer just 16 minutes later, when freshman Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) deposited his seventh goal of the young season to knot the game up at 1-1. The Highlanders grabbed the lead in the 34th minute, when senior Josh Goodyear (Camp Hill, PA / Camp Hill HS) found the back of the net on a header off a beautifully placed corner kick by freshman Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) to give Cairn a 2-1 lead, a lead it took into intermission.

The Highlanders held their lead until the 63rd minute, as Oldy Dielce of the Mighty Macs scored his second goal of the game to tie it at two a-piece. Both teams went into overtime and then double overtime. The Mighty Macs got a golden opportunity to win the game in the second overtime with a free kick from just outside the box, but freshman goalkeeper Chris Eelman (North Haledon, NJ / Hawthorne Christian Academy) made the stop in his first collegiate action, ending the contest in a 2-2 draw.

The Mighty Macs narrowly held the advantage in shots (23-18) and shots on goal (11-7). Immaculata bested the Highlanders in corner kicks (11-4). Senior keeper Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) made seven saves in just over 107 minutes played.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Saturday, September 15 when they return home to welcome Eastern University to town at Bristol Township Park at 3:30 p.m.
