Boucher Hired as Director of Sports Information

LANGHORNE, PA - Director of Athletics Jay Butler and the Cairn University Athletic Department are thrilled to announce the hiring of alumnus Michael Boucher as the Highlanders' next Sports Information Director.

Boucher takes the reigns of the sports information department after Ian Zang, who vacated the SID position in January 2021, and assistant director of game day operations Whitney Seidel, who filled the position on an interim basis for the spring 2021 semester.

Prior to returning to Cairn, Mike has spent the last two years at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, serving as a graduate assistant in the sports information office while pursuing a master's degree in education. While at Westminster, he worked with each of Westminster's 20 intercollegiate athletic programs, creating graphics, compiling statistics, managing the athletic website, and supervising a team of student-workers and interns in the sports information office.

Boucher graduated from Cairn University with a bachelor's degree in English in 2018. During his time at Cairn, Mike was a four-year student-athlete in men's golf, serving as team captain during his senior season. He also worked for three years in Cairn's game day operations department under Matthew Milich, as well as two years in its sports information department under Matthew Fenton and Ian Zang. He spent three years as a play-by-play and color commentator for Cairn's basketball broadcasting network, CairnHighlanders.TV.

Director of Athletics Jay Butler remarked on the hire: "It is always exciting to welcome one of your own home, and we are so excited to welcome Mike back to the Cairn family. His passion for sports and his affinity for Cairn University is evident. Mike spent the past two years developing his professional skill set, and we look forward to him leading our communication and marketing efforts."

When asked about returning to his alma mater as the next director of Sports Information, Mike said: "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Jay Butler, Senior Vice President of Student Affairs and Administration Scott Cawood, Vice President of Human Resources Mary Boyer and the entire search committee for this tremendous opportunity. To say that I feel blessed and humbled to be trusted with this role is a massive understatement. Cairn University's commitment to matching athletic success with biblical principles makes it the ideal institution for me. I would like to personally thank some of my mentors, Nathan LaRiccia, Matthew Fenton, Ian Zang and all the tremendous athletic communications professionals in the President's Athletic Conference, who have each shaped me as an SID. I look forward to returning to my alma mater and witnessing the great things that our Cairn University student-athletes will accomplish next season! Go Cairn!"

Mike will move back into the Langhorne area and officially assume the position of Sports Information Director in July. If you have questions related to the sports information department at Cairn University before that transition, please direct them to wseidel@cairn.edu.
