After their first official season (2019-20) was cut short by the COVID19 pandemic, the men's tennis team opened the 2021 season in a big way, taking down the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy with a dominating 6-1 team score.
The Highlanders were narrowly defeated by the Griffins in their last competition, a fall match in 2019 in which the Highlanders won all their doubles matches but dropped four of five singles matchups to lose 5-4 overall.
This spring, the Highlanders used consistent play from both their doubles and singles matchups, only dropping the #5 singles match en route to their impressive victory. In doubles, the #1Â team of
Brad Garges and
Max Bruestle won convincingly at 8-2, and the #2 doubles team of Timothy Robinson Jr. and
Jake Edwards followed with a 8-1 victory.
In singles,
Brad Garges picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #1 singles, and Timothy Robinson Jr. also won in the #3 singles slot, 6-1, 6-3. Both
Max Bruestle (#2 singles) and
Ismael Santana (#4 singles) faced adversity in their matchups, but were able to both secure comeback victories with tie-breaking set wins.Â
The Highlanders will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Clarks Summit University on April 6th.Â
