Men's Basketball Drops Heartbreaking Thriller Against Lancaster Bible

A closely-contested game ended in heartbreaking defeat for the Highlanders, who dropped their second of the season to the Lancaster Bible College Chargers, 74-72.

The last time the Highlanders met the Chargers, Cairn went cold in the second half, leading to a lopsided 86-68 loss. This game was a much more back-and-forth affair throughout, and once again Cairn found themselves locked in a close matchup and only down by 3 at the half. This season, the Highlanders have typically shot very well in the second half and are 33.4% from beyond on the season while holding their opponents to 28% from three. Unfortunately, tonight the Highlanders' sharpshooters could simply not find their rhythm, missing most of their corner three attempts and hitting only one shot from beyond in the second half (1-11) and made only 4 total threes in the game (4-20; 20%). Despite the lack of outside shooting, the Highlanders battled back and tied the game at 68 points apiece with only 1:32 left to play. A layup and two made free throws from Kameron Clark kept the Highlanders close, but in clutch time, the Chargers 42.1% three-point percentage helped them put the game away. Both Seth Beers and Ethan Beachy hit timely 3-pointers in the final seconds to ice the game and firmly deny the Highlander's chance at a comeback.

Cairn was led by sophomore guard Josh Forker, who had a season-high 20 points in the loss. LBC is one of the few teams the Highlanders face this season with the big man presence to match the excellent play of Kameron Clark. However, Clark fought through a stifling Charger defense and still managed another monster double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds; he had 8 of the team's 11 total offensive boards, which helped to produce 13 second-chance points. Lancaster's Jordan Shewbridge, who hit his 1,000th career point over the weekend, had 22 points to lead all players.

The Highlanders next take the court on Wednesday, when they face the Knights of Neumann University for their last home game of the season.
