Good's Career Night Not Enough; Highlanders Fall to Chargers

Despite a career-high 17 points from senior forward Melissa Good, including going 4-9 from deep, the Highlanders could not keep pace with a well-balanced Chargers squad and dropped tonight's matchup, 59-38.
Cairn could not find a good shooting rhythm in the first half, heading into the locker room down 31-10 after only shooting 12% from the floor. However, the Highlanders regrouped in the third and fourth quarters, with a much-improved field goal percentage, including shooting 50% from beyond the arc in the second half. The first half deficit proved too large to overcome, though, as the Chargers used excellent rebounding and balanced scoring to keep the Highlanders at bay.
Melissa Good led all players with 17 points spurred by her excellent second-half play, despite going 0-10 from the floor in the first half. Allison Barnes finished second on the Highlanders in scoring with 8 points and 4 boards, and Devin Williams led the Highlanders on the glass with 7 rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Highlanders remain above .500 this season and will look to regroup next weekend as they take on familiar CSAC foe Clarks Summit University. Cairn will travel to Clarks Summit on Friday, 2/26, to take on the Defenders at 7 PM; the Defenders will make a return trip on Saturday, 2/27. Saturday will also serve as Cairn's Senior Day game, as the Highlanders honor the career of senior forward Melissa Good before tip-off time at 7 PM.
