PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's basketball team won, 74-54, against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe University of Valley Forge on the road on Wednesday evening, marking their third-straight victory.
Cairn (7-3, 2-0 CSAC) came out of the gates hot, jetting out to a 12-0 lead before Valley Forge (3-6, 0-3 CSAC) scored their first point of the contest. The Highlanders had their largest lead of the half at 13 on two separate occasions, but the Patriots hung around and trailed Cairn 33-25 at intermission.
In the second half, the Highlanders held a nine point lead (44-35) at the 17:06 mark, before juniors
Josh Forker (Telford, PA / Faith Christian Academy) and
Wes Murray (Reading, PA / Exeter) knocked down back-to-back triples to extend their lead to 15 with 16:19 remaining. Valley Forge did not get the lead within single digits for the remainder of the contest.
Cairn out shot the Patriots 44.4% (28-63) to 34.4% (21-61) in the contest. The Highlanders dished out 16 assists in the contest, compared to seven for Valley Forge. Cairn also bested the Patriots in points in the paint (28-18).
Cairn was led by senior
Jesse Rivera (Doylestown, PA / Central Bucks East) who deposited a game-high 17 points to lead all scorers to go along with seven assists (also a game-high) and six rebounds. Rivera was three-for-three from long range. Forker and Murray followed with 14 points a-piece, while Murray collected six boards. Senior
Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) led Cairn on the glass with a game-high 15 rebounds.
Cairn will be back on the court on Saturday, December 11 when its welcomes Gwynedd Mercy University to the Mason Activity Center for a non-conference contest at 3 p.m.
