Women’s Soccer: Lions Top Highlanders in CSAC Title Bout

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The No. 4 seed Cairn University women's soccer team lost by a score of 2-0 on the road at No. 3 seed Bryn Athyn College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship game on Saturday evening.

Bryn Athyn (11-3-2) controlled the majority of the pace early in the contest, pouring on the first six shots of the contest. The fifth shot of the half for the Lions dealt the early damage, as Bryn Athyn senior Ashley Rivera, the 2021 CSAC Player of the Year, got the Lions on the board after Rivera darted past the Highlander back line and fired a shot past Cairn freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Easter Christian) to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Bryn Athyn increased its lead to 2-0 in the 39th minute, when sophomore Allyson Paul collected a loose ball inside the box and tipped it into the net. The Lions took that 2-0 lead into intermission.

In the second stanza, Cairn increased the pressure, culminating with its best chance of the contest in 74th minute, when senior Sarah Jackson (Milltown, NJ / Middlesex Community College) found some space in between the defense and fired a shot off the right woodwork. Highlander sophomore Micaela Prate (Huntingdon Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) collected the rebound and fired a shot high as the game remained tied. Cairn managed three more shots on net before the final whistle, but Bryn Athyn fended off the Highlander chances en route to its first conference championship in program history.

Bryn Athyn outshot Cairn in the contest (16-12) and bested the Highlanders in shots on goal (10-7). However, the Highlanders topped the Lions in shots in the second half (9-6). Bryn Athyn held the advantage in corner kick opportunities (4-1). Lazor collected seven saves between the pipes in the complete game effort.

Cairn finished the season with a record of 11-8-1 and made its second-consecutive CSAC Championship game appearance.
