Women’s Volleyball: Highlanders Collect Third-Straight Win, Improve to 2-1 in CSAC Play

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team earned its third-straight victory of the season with a 3-1 (26-28, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19) win over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Rosemont College on Saturday.

Cairn (5-11, 2-1 CSAC) engaged in a back-and forth battle with Rosemont (5-12, 1-1 CSAC) in the first set. The Highlanders led 24-22 in the late stage of the frame, but Rosemont responded by scoring six of the last eight points to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead in the match. In set two, Cairn was down 15-13 in danger of falling behind 2-0 in the match. However, the resilient Highlanders countered with eight-straight points, led by three kills in the rally by senior Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) to give them control in the set, a set they ended up winning by a score of 25-21. Rosemont jetted out to a 5-1 lead in set three, but the Highlanders did not let them gain momentum, as the Highlanders rattled off nine of the next 10 points to seize control. Cairn did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set. Cairn ended any hope of a decisive fifth and final set with a 25-19 victory in set four to claim the match.

Cairn was led offensively by Barnes who posted a game- and season high 14 kills to go along with a game-high five service aces. Freshman Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) followed with nine kills and added 23 digs. Freshmen Peyton Queen (Orlando, FL / Lake Mary) and Henryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) slammed down seven and six kills, respectively, while Peabody contributed a career-high 13 digs. Sophomore Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dished out a game-high 33 assists (one short of a career-high), while junior Lizzy Fay (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) led the Highlanders defensively with a game-high 25 digs.

Cairn will be back on the court on Wednesday, October 13 when it travels to La Plume to take on Keystone College in a road conference contest. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
