Women’s Volleyball: Highlanders Top Cyclones on Dig Pink Night

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team collected its second-straight victory of the season with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 16-25, 25-10) win over non-conference foe Centenary University (NJ) on Cairn's annual Dig Pink Night on Thursday evening.

Cairn (4-11) picked up right where they left off on Wednesday, jetting out to a 12-8 lead over Centenary (4-9). Cairn rallied from there for six-straight points, boosted by three service aces by senior Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) to take an 18-8 lead and cruised to a first-set victory. The second set was a battle, as the Cairn held a commanding 23-13 advantage before the Cyclones responded by scoring nine of the next ten points, only trailing by two (24-22) in the final portions of the set before sophomore Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) slammed the door shut with a kill to give the Highlanders the second-set victory. Centenary won the third set with its backs against the wall to push the match to a fourth stanza, but Cairn ended any hopes of a tiebreaking fifth set by running the Cyclones away with a dominant, 25-10 win in the fourth set to claim the match.

Cairn was led offensively by freshman Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) who posted career-highs with eight kills and a .313 hitting percentage. Barnes and freshman Peyton Queen (Orlando, FL / Lake Mary) each tied game-highs with nine kills while Barnes posted six service aces. Freshman Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) added six kills at a .263 clip and tied a team-high with nine digs, while Zepp dished out 30 assists and posted seven service aces (both game-highs). Juniors Kali Burres (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) and Lizzy Fay (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) each matched Conrad defensively with nine digs.

Cairn will be back on the court on Saturday, October 9 when it returns to official Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play as they welcome the Rosemont College Ravens to town for an 11 a.m. start time.
