BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team won in shutout fashion by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-16) on the road against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday evening.
In the first set, Cairn (11-12, 6-2 CSAC) held a 6-3 lead over Bryn Athyn (3-13, 3-5 CSAC) before igniting a six-point run fueled by two kills from freshman
Peyton Queen (Orlando, FL / Lake Mary) to give the Highlanders a 12-3 lead. The Lions made things interesting, cutting the deficit to 18-13 at the midway point, but Cairn finished them off to take a 1-0 lead in the match. In set two, the set was evenly contested with Cairn holding an 18-16 lead at the halfway mark. However, the Highlanders rallied for seven of the last nine points to take a 2-0 lead. Cairn slammed the door shut on the Lions with a commanding 25-16 set three victory to finish off the shutout.
Cairn was led offensively by senior
Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) who slammed down eight kills and tossed out six service ace (both match-highs). Freshman
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) followed with seven kills 13 digs (tying a match-high). Queen, junior
Kali Burres (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) and sophomore
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) each tallied five kills, while Queen matched Conrad with 13 digs and Zepp dished out a match-high 23 assists. Zepp's five kills also tied a career-high.
Cairn, currently the No. 4 seed in the CSAC standings, will be back on the court on Saturday, October 30 when it travels to Allentown to take on the No. 1 seed in the CSAC standings, Cedar Crest College in both teams regular season finales. Match time is slated for 10 a.m.
