LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season with an 8-1 victory over Penn State Abington University in a non-conference contest at home on Saturday.
Cairn (5-0) swept the doubles matches over Penn State Abington, paced by junior
Paige Kemper (Lancaster, PA / Garden Spot HS) and sophomore
Brianna Miller (Delta, PA / Kennard-Dale) who won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, improving the duo to 4-1 on the season. The Highlanders also bested the Nittany Lions at No. 2 doubles as the duo of senior
Lauren Griffith (Newtown, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) and freshman
Ersy Neal (Wayne, PA / Delco Christian) earned an 8-0 shutout. Cairn won at No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
Cairn won five of the six singles matches, led by Miller with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph in the No. 2 slot and Griffith with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Sophomores
Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Richmond, VA / Veritas School)
Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) claimed the most decisive victories in the singles matches, both earning 6-0, 6-0 victories in the No. 4 and No. 5 slots, respectively. Cairn won at No. 6 singles by forfeit.
The Highlanders will be back on the court on Tuesday, October 5 when they travel to King's College for their final dual match of the fall season at 3 p.m.
