Men’s Tennis: Highlanders Vault over Nittany Lions for Third-Straight Victory

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's tennis team won their third-straight contest with a 7-2 victory at home against non-conference foe Penn State Abington University on Saturday.
 
Cairn (3-1) won two of the three doubles matches, as they earned wins over Penn State Abington (0-1) in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, with junior Max Bruestle (Abington, PA / Abington Friends School) and sophomore Jake Edwards (Delta, PA / Harford Christian) nabbing an 8-3 victory at No. 2, while junior Joel Cassel (Glenside, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) and freshman Joel Kim (Harrington Park, NJ / Black Forest Academy) won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles
 
The Highlanders also claimed five of the six singles bouts, led by senior Brad Garges (Perkasie, PA / Pennridge) in tiebreaker fashion (6-3, 6-7 (13-10)) at the No. 1 slating and freshman Michel Wilson (New Hope, PA / New Hope Solebury) earning a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 2. Edwards claimed a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the No. 4 slot, while Kim won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. The final singles victory came courtesy of Cassel in the No. 6 spot, as the junior won a tight 7-6, 7-5 battle.
 
The Highlanders will be back on the court on Tuesday, October 5 when they travel to King's College for their final dual match of the fall season at 3 p.m.
