LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team lost against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Wilson College by a score of 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 14-25) at home on Tuesday evening, bringing the Highlanders six-match winning streak to an end.
In the first set, Wilson (5-11, 4-2 CSAC) started fast, jumping out to a 21-11 lead over Cairn (8-12, 4-2 CSAC). The Highlanders fought back, rattling off eight-straight points from there to try to steal the set, but the Phoenix held on to take a 1-0 lead. In set two, Cairn trailed 20-18 in the later portions of the set, but rallied to score seven of the final 10 points of the set and knotted up the match at 1-1. Set three proved to be the decisive set, as both teams battled with Wilson holding a 20-17 advantage midway through. The Highlanders fought back, scoring five consecutive points capped off by two service aces from freshman
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) to take a 22-20 lead. However, Wilson would seize momentum back, winning a long rally to claim the 21
st point and scored the next four points to win the set. The Phoenix proceeded to claim the fourth set, thus winning the match.
Cairn was led offensive by freshman
Peyton Queen (Orlando, FL / Lake Mary) who slammed down a team-high 12 kills at a .391 hitting percentage and also added 12 digs and five service aces (also a team-high). Senior
Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) added nine kills and nine digs, while Conrad put down seven kills and tied a team-high with five aces to go along with 11 digs. Junior
Kali Burres (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) posted six kills (no errors) and sophomore
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dished out a game-high 26 assists. Junior
Lizzy Fay (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) led the Highlanders defensively with a team-high 13 digs.
Cairn will be back on the court on Thursday, October 21 when it takes on Bryn Mawr College in its final non-conference bout of the season inside the Mason Activity Center at 7 p.m.
