Women’s Volleyball: Highlanders Shutout Bryn Mawr in Final Non-Conference Match

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team won by a score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) over Bryn Mawr College in their final non-conference match of the season at home Thursday evening.
 
In the first set, Bryn Mawr (5-13) held a 22-20 lead over Cairn (9-12) late in the set with a chance to take the lead in the match. The Highlanders rallied for five-straight points, capped off by an ace by freshman Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Highlanders claimed a more comfortable second-set victory before engaging in a much tighter third set with the Owls. Both teams were deadlocked at 22-22 late in the set and Cairn rattled off the final three points of the set to win the match and claim the shutout.
 
Cairn was led offensively once again by senior Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian), who posted a team-high with nine kills and a game-high seven service aces. Conrad followed with seven kills and 15 digs, while senior Caroline Bennett (Little Silver, NJ / Red Bank Regional) and freshman Peyton Queen (Orlando, FL / Lake Mary) each slammed down six kills. Bennett recorded a game-high two solo blocks and Queen posted 10 digs. Junior Kali Burres (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) led the Highlander back line, tying a game-high with 17 digs.
 
Cairn will be back on the court on Saturday, October 23 when they return to official Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play in their final home match of the season against Saint Elizabeth University at 11 a.m. Senior Day Festivities will take place prior to the match.
