Cross Country: Highlanders Compete in Prestigious Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Cairn University men's and women's cross country teams traveled Bethlehem to compete in the prestigious Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday.
 
For the women, the Highlanders were paced by freshman Emily Petty (Fort Mill, SC / Northstar Academy) who placed 209th in the large, competitive 263-runner field with a sub-30 minute 6K time of 28:26. Senior Isabella Palladino (Langhorne, PA / Homeschooled) finished second for Cairn, crossing the finish line in 31:09 to finish in 246nd position. Sophomore Jeneba Koroma (Sharon Hill, PA / Christ Academy) placed 246th for the Highlanders with a time of 31:54, while freshman Carina Russell earned a time of 33:53 to finish 256th. Junior Madeline Chase (Apalachin, NY / Ross Corners Christian Academy) rounded out the top-five finishers for Cairn with a 258th place mark of 35:18. All six female runners achieved PR's, including Junior Tishara Linares (Allentown, PA / Emmaus) who finsihed with a time of 39:00.
 
For the men, Cairn was paced by freshman Nicholas Palladino (Langhorne, PA / Homeschooled), who crossed first for the Highlanders with an 8K time of 32:42 to finish 180th in the 218-runner field. Crossing next for the Highlanders was sophomore Joseph Keeports (York, PA / Central York HS) with a time of 33:54 to place 190th. Senior Brian Jennings (Germantown, PA / Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) finished in 197th place with a time of 34:37, while junior Tim Colgan finished with a time of 36:59 for 205th place. Senior Weston Colon (Fords, NJ / Woodbridge) rounded out the top-five finishers for Cairn, placing 209th with a time of 38:21. Palladino, Keeports, Colon, senior Weston Hamilton (Newtown, PA / Plumstead Christian) (39:27) and freshmen Michael Scott (42:04) and Saumel Douglas each achieved a PR in the event.
 
The women's and men's cross country teams will be back on the course next Saturday, October 9 when they compete in the Goucher College Invitational in their final event before the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship meet.
