LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted Neumann University in a non-conference match last night, fighting hard but falling to the Knights in five sets.
Cairn rolled through the first two sets thanks in large part to monster serving runs by senior
Jon Simpson. The Highlanders won the first set 25-13 before trailing in the second 5-0. Simpson entered the game for the Highlanders and Cairn promptly went on a 12-0 run to reclaim the lead and win the second set 25-17. Cairn trailed 24-21 in the third set before battling back to send the set to extra points, the Highlanders were unable to get over the hump and fell 26-24. After a close loss in the third, Neumann caught fire winning the next two sets by slim margins and taking the five set victory over the Highlanders.
Cairn was led by
Scott Bassill with 41 assists,
Collin Benjamin with 15 kills, and
Dave Cassel finished with 17 digs to lead the Highlanders.
