Highlanders Drop Game One of CSAC Championship

LA PLUME, PA- Despite an excellent start from senior Albert Taylor, the Highlanders fell in game one of the CSAC Championship series to the Keystone Giants.

The Highlanders started the game off in excellent fashion, Joshua Melchior blasted a single through the right side of the infield, before swiping second base to set himself up in scoring position. Emilio Alvarez followed up with a clutch two out double down the right field line to score Melchior. One batter later, Fernandez knocked a single into left field, but unfortunately, Alvarez was thrown out at home to end the Highlanders rally. Albert Taylor, a CSAC First Team selection, mowed through the formidable Keystone lineup to start the game. Taylor kept the Giants off balance with his excellent off-speed offerings, allowing only two baserunners through the first five innings. The senior worked out of a jam in the fifth, inducing a fly out with runners on second and third to keep the Giants at bay. Keystone's duo of star seniors made their mark on the game in the bottom of the sixth as Chris Panzarella and Dakota McFadden notched back-to-back doubles to tie the game. Taylor nearly got out of the jam with a double play, but Melchior's throw slipped by Daniel Morales at first base, scoring two more and giving Keystone a 3-1 lead. The Highlanders notched a couple more baserunners, but were unable to crack Keystone's Jared Rowley. The Giants tacked on three more insurance runs in the seventh to take the first game of the CSAC Championship.

The Highlanders will regroup and take on Keystone in a must-win game two tomorrow at 12:00 PM.
