Highlanders Explode for 17 Hits, but Fall to Lions

LANGHORNE, PA – On a sunny and windy day in Langhorne, the Highlanders would drop a non-conference, midweek game with the Albright College Lions.

Cairn wasted little time jumping all over the Lions' starter as Cairn would pile on 5 runs in the first inning.  Daniel Morales picked up the first RBI of the day for Cairn with a double that would score Josh Melchior.  Emilio Alvarez promptly singled to plate Morales and give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.  Mike Sorowice continues to make a huge impact in the middle of the lineup, as he crushed a 3 run homerun to right field.

Albright started chipping away by score 3 runs over the course of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings to cut the Cairn lead to 1 at 6-5.  In the 5th, Cairn would answer with 3 runs of their own with hits from Trey Valiton, Josh Melchior, and Morales.

The Lions would then go on to score 7 runs over the course of two innings to take a 12-9 lead.  In the 7th, with Nate Wilson on first and Daniel Morales on third, the Highlander runners would continue to cause havoc on the base paths causing the Lion pitcher to balk and Cairn to score another run.

Albright would tack on 2 insurance runs in the 9th and Cairn would fall by a final score of 14-10.

Cairn was led offensively by Daniel Morales who was an impressive 5 for 6 from the dish with 3 doubles, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

Cairn continues non-conference play at home on Thursday as they take on former CSAC foe Immaulata at 3:30 pm.  The Highlanders will then go into an important weekend series with Keystone with a doubleheader in Langhorne on Saturday, followed by the series finale Monday in La Plume.
