Highlanders Bombs Not Enough Against Cabrini

LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted the Cabrini Cavaliers in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. Cairn fell to Cabrini in two tightly-contested games, 3-8, 7-11.

The Highlanders bats fell quiet in game one as Cairn mustered only 6 hits against the Cavaliers powerful pitching. Freshman Michael Sorowice stayed hot, going 2-4 at the dish. Nate Wilson and Caleb Edman each notched a hit, with Edman scoring two runs, and Trey Valiton picked up the Highlanders only RBI of the game. The Highlanders got within one run in the 6th when Edman and Valiton pulled off a perfect double steal, with Edman scoring on an errant throw from the Cabrini catcher. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers added a few insurance runs in the bottom of the 7th to take the win in the first contest.

The Highlanders took the lead with a big fourth inning in game two. Emilio Alvarez cracked a homerun to give Cairn their first run of the day. Mike Sorowice and Nate Wilson each singled and Trey Valiton walked to load the bases. Senior Alejandro Fernandez came through in a major way with a 2 RBI single, tying the game 3-3. One batter later, Caleb Edman smashed the Highlanders second bomb of the day to deep left field, picking up 2 RBIs and giving Cairn a 5-3 lead. Cabrini bounced back in the next two innings, picking up 5 runs and taking an 8-5 lead. The Highlanders got another two runs back in the 6th as Sorowice and Wilson knocked back-to-back jacks for the third and fourth Cairn homeruns of the contest. While the offense heated up, the Highlanders couldn't overcome the four run deficit and dropped game 2.

Cairn will embark on another CSAC series this weekend against the Clarks Summit University Defenders. The Highlanders will host Clarks Summit Friday at 3:30 PM, and travel for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM on Saturday.
