LANGHORNE, PA- On a sunny, blustery March afternoon, the Highlanders started off the 2019 season in excellent fashion, sweeping Cabrini University 9-0 and earning their first victory of the season.

The Highlanders doubles teams showed incredible chemistry, despite their relative inexperience. Freshman
Lauren Griffith and first year player
Bianca Birney notched the Highlanders first point of the day with a commanding 8-2 win in the #2 spot. Playing as the #1 doubles team, captain
Maya Neal and freshman
Allyssa Peters picked up the Highlanders second point with a tough 8-5 victory. To complete the doubles sweep, veterans
Charlotte Allen and
Kara Williams won with ease, 8-4, to put Cairn in excellent position moving into singles.

The Highlanders sealed the victory as
Allyssa Peters and
Bianca Birney dominated the competition in the #1 and #2 spots. Peters utilized powerful serves and incredible dexterity at the net to win 6-1, 6-0, while Birney's poised defensive play spurred her to a 6-2, 6-1 win. After a competitive first set, Neal dominated the second to notch another point for the Highlanders. In perhaps the most hard-fought match of the afternoon,
Lauren Griffith played with tremendous grit, outlasting her opponent and taking a 12-10 win in the third set to win her singles match 2-1.
Charlotte Allen and
Ellie Santos showed the Highlanders strength throughout the lineup, closing out the Highlanders win in the #5 and #6 spots and completing the 9-0 victory.

The Highlanders will host Notre Dame (MD) University next Friday at 4:30 PM for their first CSAC match of the season.
