Fort Pierce, FL – The Cairn Highlanders took on the Kenyon College Lords Sunday afternoon in sunny Fort Pierce, Florida. The Lords would get the better of the Highlanders for the second straight year, as Kenyon would defeat Cairn by a score of 14-3.
Kenyon wasted little time jumping out in front of Cairn scoring a run in first inning on two hits. The Lords quickly tacked on three more runs in the second to increase their lead to 4-0.
Starting pitcher,
Carson Conradt, would settle down after a rocky first two innings. The sophomore would go on to strike out 4 of the next 6 hitters on back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. After another easy frame for Conradt, the 6
th, he would find himself in a jam in the 7
th. Conradt would give way to Morales, ending his day with 6.1 innings pitched and 6 punch outs.
Daniel Morales would launch a ball over the right field fence for a leadoff homerun in the 7
th and finally get the Highlanders on the board.
After the Lords would add 4 more insurance runs in the 8
th,
Andrew Philips would walk in the 8
th, advance to second on a wild pitch, and steal third before
Alejandro Fernandez would drive him home for the Highlanders 2
nd run of the game. Fernandez would come around to score on a Josh Melchior single to right field.
The Highlanders had their chances throughout the game, as they would leave 13 runners on base.
Cairn was led offensively by Fernandez with 2 hits and 1 RBI, Morales with the homerun, and Brian Amantia with a triple.
Cairn will be off tomorrow and use the time to regroup before a night game on Tuesday with Wheaton.
