LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders swept past the Centenary Cyclones in the opening round of the CSAC playoffs Monday night, setting more program history by winning the first CSAC playoff game in Cairn history.
Â
The Highlanders and Cyclones played even over the first half with Centenary utilizing pinpoint outside shooting and the Highlanders working it inside to the towering Stum sisters. Cairn trailed by two at the half but the Highlanders broke it open in the third quarter as
Payton Emerick slashed to the rim for four straight points, and Tori Stum began to dominate in the post. Stum came up huge for the Highlanders, dominating on the defensive end and controlling the boards against Centenary's imposing center Jessica McKenzie. The Highlanders showed incredible poise to close the game out as
Kendra Stum and
Dakota Hitchner knocked down free throw after free throw to push the Highlanders through for their first CSAC playoff victory.
Kendra Stum led the Highlanders with 17 points and 5 rebounds, while
Dakota Hitchner (13 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists) and Tori Stum (12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 steals) each chipped in across the board to spur the Highlanders to victory.Â
Â
Cairn will travel to take on the Keystone Giants in a CSAC semifinal Thursday night at 7:00 PM. The Highlanders dropped close contests to the Giants twice this season and will look for redemption Thursday night. On the other side of the bracket, the Rosemont Ravens will take on the Wilson Phoenix in a battle between the #1 and #6 ranked teams.
