LANGHORNE, PA – The Mason Activity Center was filled with shouts and cheers of anticipation as two of the CSAC's top teams met on the court this evening. After two non-conference wins earlier in the week, the Highlanders sought to extend their win streak to 10 games against the Rosemont Ravens Saturday night.
Play in the first half was electric as the lead bounced back and forth between the two teams.
Jeremiah Harris controlled the Highlanders offense with 12 points, while freshman
Dashaun Cain and junior
Eric Jacobs provided excellent support off the bench. Matched up in a physical battle against an athletic Rosemont squad, Cain and Jacobs set the tone with their hustle and tenacious defensive play. After a stellar shooting first half, the Highlanders took a 41-37 lead into the break.
Both teams ratcheted up the pace in the second half, with the Highlanders quickly stretching the lead to 9 points after back-to-back triples from
Julian Collazo. However, Rosemont quickly battled back, mounting an 11-1 run over the next three minutes to take the lead. The Ravens would hold onto the lead for the rest of the contest as they managed to outlast every Cairn run with a clutch three from guard Keith Blassingale or a layup from Jalil Myers. A Collazo layup got the Highlanders within one with only 15 seconds on the clock, but Rosemont knocked down their free throws to take the win and hand the Highlanders their first CSAC loss of the 2019 season.
Julian Collazo (26 points, 12 rebounds) and
Jeremiah Harris (25 points) dominated offensively for the Highlanders, but their efforts were not enough on a night when Rosemont was simply on fire offensively. The Ravens shot 51% from the field and 57% from behind the arc in the 90-86 win.
With only two more games remaining in the regular season, the Highlanders will travel to Clarks Summit University on Wednesday to face off with the Defenders, before making the long trip to Wilson College Saturday afternoon. A win in either contest would clinch the #1 overall seed for the Highlanders heading into the CSAC playoffs 10 days from now.
