LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted Keystone College Saturday afternoon in a clash between the CSAC's top contenders.
The Highlanders relied on individual brilliance from a couple of their standout sophomores in Saturday's game. Keystone took the lead twice, but Cairn's steady center-midfielder
Josiah Nistorenko answered each time. The Giants notched a set-piece goal in the 26
th minute, but Nistorenko caught Keystone's keeper off guard, blasting home the tying goal from 25 yards out just 4 minutes later. Keystone peppered the Highlanders net, forcing keeper Kam Clark into a number of acrobatic saves. The reigning CSAC Rookie of the Year came up huge for the Highlanders, stifling a number of one-on-one runs by Keystone forwards. Daniel Zuniga scored to put the Giants ahead, but the Highlanders leveled just three minutes later once more.
Luis Pe Villanueva drew a penalty, which Nistorenko promptly snuck past the keeper and into the back of the net. The game headed to overtime and Clark kept the Highlanders afloat with a couple miracle saves early in the first extra period. In the second overtime period,
Brett Kikendall made a run to the corner, taking the ball off Keystone's center back and playing a perfect pass into Nistorenko in the middle. The sophomore spun and faked a shot to shed one defender, feinted left, then right, and curled the game-winner into the top corner to give Cairn a thrilling OT victory. The Highlanders will travel to Swarthmore College for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 PM later this week.
