Highlanders Outlast Bryn Athyn, Take OT Victory

LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders capped off their busy week in excellent fashion, outlasting Bryn Athyn College and taking their second OT victory of the week 73-64.

Cairn started off slowly, showing a bit of wear and tear from the two tough games they played earlier in the week. The Highlanders trailed 8-0 to start the game, but a layup from Kendra Stum, three from Dakota Hitchner, and jumper from Charlotte Allen quickly brought them back into the game. Cairn trailed by 6 with just two minutes left in the first half, but a quick 9-0 run thanks to another trey from Hitchner and layups from the Stum sisters put the Highlanders ahead 27-24 at the half.

The Lions came storming back into the game, but the Highlanders had some energy injected back into the afternoon by the dogged rebounding of Elena Young (6 rebounds in 5 minutes) and Payton Emerick.  The Highlanders led by as much as 7 in the fourth quarter, but Bryn Athyn showed great resilience to tie the game and take the lead as the clock wound down.  Cairn trailed by 2 with 43 seconds left after Clayshonia Cogmon finished a layup.  The Highlanders turned the ball over but Kendra Stum came up clutch yet again, stealing the ball and giving Cairn one last chance.  The ball found its way into Payton Emerick's hands and Emerick threaded a beautiful pass to Victoria Stum who finished the game-tying layup with ease.

Kendra Stum took over for the Highlanders in overtime. The senior slashed to the rim, scoring at will and outscoring Bryn Athyn 9-7 in the extra period. Stum's scoring fueled the Highlanders as Cairn scored an incredible 16 points in the five minute extra period.

Stum finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds and Payton Emerick notched another huge double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds on 7-13 shooting.

The Highlanders will travel to Rosemont College Wednesday night to take on the Ravens in another CSAC matchup.
