YARDLEY, PA – The Highlanders met the Cedar Crest Falcons at Macclesfield Park for the opening match of their CSAC slate. Cairn played their hearts out for the full 90 minutes, but ran out of time against one of the CSAC's most high-powered offenses, and dropped the contest 2-0.
The Cairn offense created a number of solid opportunities, however, the Highlanders simply could not find the back of the net. Forward
Sarah Jackson put constant pressure on the Cedar Crest back line with her speed, as the freshman trio of Jackson,
Lauren Costa, and Tori Ruitto each had a couple of excellent chances. Costa had perhaps the best chance of the afternoon as she sped through the Cedar Crest defense and appeared to be in on goal. The forward poked her attempt around the Falcon's waiting keeper, unfortunately, it rolled just wide of the post on the left side. On the other side, Cedar Crest focused their offensive attack around Daria Warner sending her on run after run. It paid off in the 67
th minute on a through ball that Warner smashed past Cairn's excellent keeper MacKenzie Paugh.
The Highlanders strung together three shots over the next couple minutes in an attempt to equalize, but keeper Morgan Maddock made three incredible saves to keep the clean slate. The Falcon's Tess Spitler secured the victory in the 89
th minute with the Falcon's second goal coming when the Highlanders were pressing up. The diving Paugh deflected the shot but could not push it outside the posts, and Cairn dropped their first CSAC match 2-0.
The Highlanders will be back in action this Saturday at 1:30 PM when they take on the Rosemont College Ravens in the Homecoming game. Go Cairn!
