ALLENTOWN, PA- In today's CSAC matchup with the Falcons of Cedar Crest College, the Highlanders did not walk away with a victory, but again saw great progress as young players
Kara Williams and Rachel Smith tallied wins for the Highlanders in singles play.
Smith has continued her steady improvements, playing a couple close matches over the last couple weeks before finally completing the victory in this afternoon's contest. The freshman won the first set 6-3, before falling 2-6 in the second. The third set saw steadily increasing drama as Smith and Ashley Wilkins were tied at 6-6, before Smith won the tiebreaker to take the set and the match, 2-1. The Highlanders other singles victory came out of the #4 spot with
Kara Williams. After losing the first set, Williams fought all the way back, winning the second set 6-4, and the third 7-5, to give Cairn their second point of the afternoon. A great number of Highlanders played close matches as Maya Neal won five games, Mariah Wilson won 6, and Ellie Santos won four in singles play. Despite close matches, the Highlanders dropped all three points in doubles, Katelyn Loveless and Joy Englehart came incredibly close in their match, with the games at 6-7, but the Falcons #3 doubles team outlasted our Highlanders to take the point.
The Highlanders will be back in action again next Tuesday when they take the court against Cabrini University at 4:00 PM.
